Food Ethos

Our philosophy to food and healthy eating has always been about enjoying everything in a balanced and sane way. Food is one of life’s greatest joys and we believe that when you use good ingredients to make pasta dishes, stews, roast dinners, fruit salads, and even outrageous puddings, they all have a place in our diets.

Little Pixies holds a Platinum Health Eating award with Shropshire Council. We are recognised as having a Level 5 in Food Health & Hygiene.

Our menus change regularly to reflect the best of the seasons, giving children the variety they need to try new ideas and is part of a healthy and balanced approach to food.

All our fees our fully inclusive of meals, snacks and cow’s milk.

Breakfast is served until 9am, and may consist of a variety of wholegrain cereals.  Mid morning snack will consist of a variety of fruit and toasted crumpets/muffins.  Our main meal of the day is at Lunchtime and could be a Cottage Pie with root veg mash, broccoli & peas followed by a Damson and Plum Crumble with Custard.  We aim to have a meat free day and enjoy fish at least once a week.  Afternoon snack often consists of crackers and cheese with crudities followed by an early tea of freshly made smoked mackerel pate on toast & organic yoghurt.  Often a homemade cake or oaty biscuits are on offer instead of yoghurt.  Our meals are all prepared from scratch on site and we like to involve the older children in the nursery when planning menus.  Rice Pudding is often requested as a firm favourite!  At whatever stage your child is at during the weaning process we can support and work with parents to achieve their aims and choices.

Where our food comes from is important to us, we source only the highest quality meat, fish and freshest fruit & vegetables.   Our butcher is known personally to us and regularly visits his suppliers on their farms to ensure quality & high standards of welfare.  Our fruit and vegetables come from a local farm and are selected for seasonality and taste.
